The Digital Soil Core (DSC) has been an integral part of LandScan’s very busy fall. We’ve collected millions of subsurface remote sensing images of complete soil profiles around California to help build our digital twins for optimizing crop irrigation and nutrition. We also learn a tremendous amount about soil health and organic matter not to mention many new discoveries of things you simply can’t observe ex-situ. When this imagery is fused with the other sensors within the DSC such as spectroscopy, moisture, acoustics, and others our ability to characterize and inventory the soil environment is unparalleled anywhere in the world.
