West Coast Nut Magazine – Digital Twin: Precision Tool Elevates Management Decisions

The creation and use of a digital twin of your cropping system is an essential part of optimizing management and production. This informative April article in West Coast Nut Magazine is about how LandScan technology is utilized.

LandScan is working with nut growers in both the US, and by this June in Australia, to optimize inputs according to the yield potential of a given portion of a field. Some locations receive more, and many less, of whatever input has been traditionally applied uniformly across the field. Uniform application of inputs doesn’t make sense if you can help it!

In many cases locations within fields are determined to be unprofitable. These places can be taken out of production and converted to solar panels, a reservoir, or equipment staging area. In turn the correct quantity of nutrients, amendments, and irrigation applied at the right place and right time produces a better quality and higher yielding crop. Potential environmental harm is also mitigated.

A digital twin is a digital representation of an object and/or process that enables simulation, modeling, and decision-support. It is not possible to build a digital twin using soil samples for any part of the process.
